CSSVista - Your Opinion Please...
CSSVista's development is coming along very well and is really starting to pick up momentum.
I've been stuck on a few of the developer options (outlining, validation etc) I was wondering whether to simply release 0.2 with half a menu bar!
I wonder if it's better to release *something* with some important options (like settings/preferences panel) missing, rather than nothing at all?
For example, we have version saving working, but the settings panel I'm building for all the features won't be ready for a while yet. Do we release without the ability to turn features on/off and customise them?
The other reason I'm desperate to launch 0.2 is it has built in automatic updating. So once you uninstall 0.1 and get 0.2 - you'll never have to update it again.
What do you think? Launch 0.2 without a settings panels? Or wait a few weeks until the settings panel is finished?
Update: CSSVista 0.15 has been released.

Hmmm, interesting quandry... I am currently dealing with the same thing. In my case, some of the functionality is still missing along with the admin options, so that made the decision to hold off releasing it somewhat easier.
I think you should release it. I'm definitely into being able to customize the settings in the programs I use, but I am more interesting in being able to use it. If the functionality is there, then get it out to the public. And with the automatic updates, at least it won't be too much of a hassle on either end to get the "finished" version once the settings panels are done.

I would also suggest to release it. Not necessarily just because I want to try all the new features out (to visualize differences in the browser rendering engines), which I do...but because of the old phrase: "release early, release often". Also considering the amount of new features that you have in a second release, I don't think an early release would be all that bad. Heck, you could even play off the Microsoft beta buzz and call it "CSSVista 0.2RC1" if you wanted. :)

I forgot to mention... If you do release early, and since the following updates will come in soon - this is the judgment call: if you release early, you might want to ignore the onslaught of possible bug reports (unless fatal) until after YOU get to where YOU want to be (i.e.: with the settings control panel)...then go back and fix minor bugs, quirks, and requests.

I would say release, there is time for adding the other half of the menu bar later while people have a relatively recent version in use.

Please release it.. and if it's just for the "auto-update" ;) [I'm tired looking every week and love the auto-update]

Thanks for your feedback everyone!
We'ved decided to call this version 0.15 (instead of 0.2) - there's just so much stuff we want to put in, but stability and reliability is more important, as is actually being able to use it! But probably the most important thing is autoupdating.
0.15 will be coming out as soon as testing is finished (very early next week I hope), after that we're going to preview some of the features we hope to get into CSSVista before 1.0 (there's some incredible stuff!).
I'll post again very soon.
Thanks again!

Can't wait for the new version!

Yes, really looking forward to it!

but stability and reliability is more important
The idea is brilliant but the implementation crap:
(1) I had to uninstall it and the uninstall routine deleted the parent directory (but not the desktop icon, of course)
(2) very unintuitive eg how do you actually save any changes made to the CSS?
To say nothing of this blog - broken layout etc etc

I'd say release it now, and move the other features on to the backlog for version 0.3.
Better to make some progress and get some features out. This goes if stability and usability is not suffering from it.
Bring it on!

you guys suck big time. F^%&%$ no uninstaller!
you make me sick

Anon,
It uses the default Windows Installer.
I'm guessing you haven't installed any software for a few years but we use "add/remove programs" to uninstall applications.
It's under start > control panel > add/remove programs.

Great work. I do have problems with editing attached css files, and hope you will develop this into a full fledged applicaiton :)

I'd release it. I'd rather upgrade my 110mph car to a 150mph car than wait for the 180mph version with the shiny wheels! ;)

I believe your security-question, no one understands!
That will be the reason why no one wrote here, until now.
I'm very thankful for you work!!!
