Another IE7 Fix: "You've Opened a New Tab!" Won't Go Away
If on opening a new tab you see the "about:tabs" page and checking the "Don't show this page again" checkbox has no effect, download and run this registry hack to fix the problem.
Download ie7-fix-tabwelcome.reg
As always, backup your registry before editing it. To backup your registry:
- Start > Run > type 'regedit' and press enter
- Select "My Computer", go to File > Export...
- Save the .reg file - this way, if your registry becomes corrupt you can restore it using this file.
If you're using Windows XP remember you can use System Restore (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore) to backup system settings (including the registry).

Thanks, Matt,
I kept getting the "about:tabs" page on opening a new tab - even though I'd selected the "open home page instead of blank page" option. Your fix cleared down that option and, when reinstated, I then got back the home pages on opening new tabs! John.

FIXED! - You've opened a new tab.
No need to edit the registry for this (this is dangerous), just follow these easy steps:
To Open your Home Page for New Tabs instead of Blank Page:
+ Set your home page
- Click on the Tools menu in Internet Explorere and click on Internet Options
- Make sure that you are on the General tab and that the page you want to use is set as your home page
+ Set new Tabs to use your home page
- Click on the Settings button in the Tabs section (near the bottom of the dialogue box)
- In the new Tabbed Browser Settings dialogue box, ticking the Open home page for new tabs instead of a blank page checkbox
- Click on OK to save and exit all boxes
+ Stop the "You've opened a new tab" page from being displayed instead of your home page by ticking the Dont show this page again checkbox
