A Nice Thought

It occurred to me today that I'm happiest when knee-deep in programming-related problems.

A little while ago I start to feel a little bored while working, I now realise this was because the projects I was working on were very straight forward, I wasn't really solving a problem, there wasn't a challenge and I certainly wasn't going to be the first person to do whatever it was I was doing.

I've since changed the way I work and the projects I take on, I'm also doing a lot more of my own stuff. I'm working on things right now that no-one else has done before (okay, so it's not like I'm curing a disease or anything, but I'm still improving people's lives by making their work day easier :-) and it feels great.

Just thought I'd share that.

- Paul (from Salted) and I will be in New York in a week's time (w/b 4th Dec) and I've not been before so if anyone can recommend any cool places to visit or wants to meet for a drink - let me know!

hey dude, that's exactly the way i'm feeling lately.

seems like the projects i'm working on are just too straight forward. nothing's challenging me.

nice blog! i've got you bookmarked.

Gav - thanks :-)

Sorry to hear about your current projects, you should try starting your own mini-project. Like I did with Flare. It can be very rewarding if you plan out a business model of some sort, even if that model is nothing more than benefiting from the extra attention you'll receive.
